The Project
Animal Kind Alliance (AKA) provides pro-bono legal advocacy and services to protect and advance the rights and well-being of all animals. They forge alliances across diverse sectors to address the significant impact of industrial animal agriculture on climate change — uniting folks from across multiple intersectional causes, including animal protection organizations, environmental groups, public health advocates, and social justice movements.
Our Approach
We worked with AKA to understand their multiple audiences, desired brand personality, and design needs. We discussed the challenges they were experiencing with their old branding, and came up with a solution that is modern, approachable, and professional to appeal to their network and supporters.
Logo
The logo concept is inspired by semicolon, to represent “joining together.” In addition, when people use the acronym “AKA”, they often follow it with a colon (aka:). The two elements in the semicolon are the globe and heart – representing planetary health and kindness. The letters “aka” are comfortably nestled, suggesting connection and close-knit community and strong alliances.
Branding
The brand is highly clean and minimalist, suggesting a professional, established look. The muted tones of the color palette suggest seriousness yet softness — a subdued, friendly look and feel that suggests AKA is reliable and approachable. The logo concept is reinforced with animation, showing the earth and heart beating in tandem with each other.
Website Design
The streamlined website design is professional and effective at communicating AKA’s mission at a glance. The clean, minimalist look and feel is effective at establishing that initial trust.
Other Graphic Elements
Throughout the website and other materials, there’s opportunities to show off AKA’s diverse mission. The globe and heart silhouettes can have their images replaced to represent different areas of their mission, creating a simple yet effective message.
